Great Danes are wonderful companions and friends. They are devoted family pets and do well with other pets. What attracts many people in Great Danes is their quiet personality. The dog is always calm and has an air of dignity around it. They enjoy spending long hours with their owners doing things together. Yet, whatever activities the Great Dane is involved in, it is always on the alert. In fact, these dogs make perfect guard dogs and are valued for their working qualities.
Despite their considerable size, Great Danes can easily adapt to living in an apartment. However, make sure that the dog is exercised daily. It is also a good idea to spend an outing sometimes and let a Great Dane enjoy a long walk. The breed is rather intelligent and easy to train. If you are thinking about getting a Great Dane, there are some aspects of owning the breed that should be taken into consideration. The Great Dane is a huge dog that needs much food. Preference should be given to high quality food. Great Danes suffer from bloat. Thus, it is recommended to feed a dog a few small meals a day. Note that water should be always available. Another concern of breed owners is a short life span of the dog. As a rule, Great Danes live up to ten years.
